InfraBuild's integrated manufacturing network connects metal recycling, steelmaking and rolling to produce Australian-made steel products for construction, infrastructure, manufacturing, mining and agriculture.

At our electric arc furnaces in Rooty Hill NSW and Laverton VIC, scrap metal is melted and transformed into steel billet before being rolled into new steel products through our Australian manufacturing network.

Electric arc furnace steelmaking

InfraBuild has operated electric arc furnace steelmaking in Australia for decades. Unlike traditional blast furnace steelmaking, the EAF process uses electricity to melt scrap metal and transform it into new steel.

This supports a circular approach to steelmaking, keeping existing steel in productive use while reducing reliance on virgin raw materials.

We're continuing to invest in our steelmaking operations, renewable electricity and manufacturing processes to reduce emissions and strengthen Australian steelmaking capability.

Our Laverton operation combines electric arc furnace steelmaking with bar and rod manufacturing capability, supplying Australian-made steel products to customers around the country.

How steel is made matters. We're investing in our manufacturing operations to reduce emissions while continuing to produce the steel Australia needs.

Our electric arc furnaces use scrap metal to manufacture new steel, while increased renewable electricity and improvements to our manufacturing processes are helping reduce the emissions associated with steel production.

We're also providing customers with independently verified environmental data through Environmental Product Declarations, helping project teams better understand and compare the embodied carbon of the steel they specify.
