Independently certified steel products for more sustainable projects.

A select range of InfraBuild reinforcing bar, reinforcing mesh, wire rod and merchant bar products are independently certified under Good Environmental Choice Australia's Steel & Steel Products standard.

Independent certification you can rely on.

GECA is an Australian not-for-profit ecolabelling program. Its certification process follows internationally recognised ISO 14024 principles and assesses products against environmental, health, social and quality criteria across their lifecycle.

For InfraBuild customers, GECA certification provides independent third-party assurance that certified steel products have been assessed against the requirements of the GECA Steel & Steel Products standard.

Additional products were added in 2024 and 2025, including SENSE 600® reinforcing bar, SENSE 600® TrenchMesh™ and our 500E reinforcing range.

In May 2026, these products were successfully recertified, with select merchant bar products also added to the certification.

Which InfraBuild products are GECA certified?

Supporting sustainability-rated projects.

InfraBuild's GECA-certified products can support projects seeking recognition through Australian sustainable building and infrastructure rating tools.

Green Star.

GECA is recognised as a Product Certification Initiative within the Green Building Council of Australia's Green Star rating tools.

InfraBuild's GECA certification has a Responsible Product Value of ≥15 and can support relevant outcomes under the Responsible Structure credit within Green Star Buildings.

Infrastructure Sustainability.

GECA is also recognised within Infrastructure Sustainability Council rating tools, supporting sustainability outcomes for InfraBuild's certified products used on rated infrastructure projects.

As part of our ongoing support of sustainability rated building and infrastructure projects, a select range of our reinforcing bar, reinforcing mesh and merchant bar products have been successfully certified to the Good Environmental Choice Australia (GECA) Steel Standard.

In May 2023, select reinforcing bar and reinforcing mesh products manufactured by InfraBuild to AS/NZS 4671 (referred to as “InfraBuild’s Reinforcing Bar and Mesh Products”) were independently certified as meeting the requirements of GECA's Steel & Steel Products (SSPv1.0i-2019) lifecycle ecolabel standard.

Additional products, including InfraBuild’s innovative SENSE 600® reinforcing bar and SENSE 600® TrenchMesh™ range, and our 500E reinforcing range, were added to the GECA Certification in 2024 and 2025.

In May 2026, InfraBuild achieved recertification to the same GECA Standard of all these products, as well as select InfraBuild merchant bar products.

GECA is a recognised Product Certification Initiative within the GBCA’s Green Star rating tools. Products certified by this initiative may contribute to a project’s Green Star rating through the Responsible Structure credits.

GECA's Steel & Steel Products (SSPv1.0i-2019) Certification has a Responsible Product Value (RPV) of ≥ 15.

As such, our GECA Certification can support either a ‘Credit Achievement’ or an ‘Exceptional Performance’ outcome in the Responsible Structure credit within the GBCA’s ‘Green Star Buildings’ ratings tool.

GECA is also recognised in the Infrastructure Sustainability Council’s IS Ratings tools and supports the highest possible Sustainability Factor for InfraBuild’s GECA Certified products used in ISC rated projects.

What is GECA?

The GECA certification scheme, following internationally recognised ISO 14024 principles, is an Australian not-for-profit multi-sector lifecycle ecolabelling program.

The independent assessment to obtain the GECA ecolabel independent tick is a robust process underpinned by rigorous standards, which look at impacts across a product's entire lifecycle, from the extraction of raw materials to the end of its life and conformance to the applicable GECA standards is assessed by a third-party assurance provider.

The GECA certification for InfraBuild’s select reinforcing bar, reinforcing mesh and merchant bar products is valid for three years from the date of certification.

A word from GECA

"At GECA, it's always a cause for excitement when we welcome a new ecolabel licensee to the GECA family! However, InfraBuild's certification is a particularly momentous occasion as they are the first organisation under our Steel & Steel Products standard. What an incredible achievement! InfraBuild has gone through the rigour of a third-party assessment to show that their reinforcing bar and reinforcing mesh products are better for people and the planet.

InfraBuild has demonstrated sustainability leadership in the sector and the broader Australian marketplace by certifying under our lifecycle ecolabel standard. Congratulations InfraBuild, on your commitment, and we look forward to a long and fantastic partnership with you."
